If you value 4K video above all else, but are shopping on a relatively tight budget, the Miofive S1 is a dash cam worthy of your attention. As well as producing excellent video day and night, the S1 has a 3in display, speedy 5GHz Wi-Fi for smartphone control, GPS for adding speed data to your recordings and a compact design. The S1 records 4K video with very little noise – as often plagues footage shot by budget dash cams – and is a breeze to set up and use. A frame rate higher than 30 fps at Full HD would have been welcome, but otherwise it’s a solid package.

If 4K resolution is what you need, the Miofive S1 Ultra delivers. Unlike most other dashcams, it records in 4K to both the front and rear of your vehicle, while also packing Wifi, GPS, and a decent display. A 64GB microSD card is included, so you don’t need to worry about those large 4K files, and the optional smartphone app works pretty well. The windshield mount could be better though, and at 25 frames per second (when shooting in 4K), the rear camera’s frame rate isn’t the best. That said, this is a dual 4K dashcam that represents good value for money.

The Miofive S1 Ultra is a competent dashcam that has a range of features with the built-in GPS and mobile app. It comes with 4K recording capabilities on both the front and rear camera which is refreshing. The low light performance means that you can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll have the footage that you need when you need it. While the voice alerts can become a little tedious it’s nice to know the camera is doing its job, and there’s plenty of adjustability in the volume and alert settings to set-up the camera how you want. The built quality is great, so rest assured you’re buying a dependable camera.

As I say every time I review a dash cam, most people who buy a dash cam just want to have proof if they're involved in an accident, and as long as you can see the license plates of the vehicles around you, that's fine.
The S1 Ultra does not disappoint. At $199, it's one of the "most" complete packages on the market, also selling at a fair price. It's not a flawless offering, but despite the occasional hiccups – such as incorrect exposure adjustments and an unresponding mobile app when switching from metric to imperial units – it's hard to find a better product in the same price range.
